Comin’ Home

On December 21, 2012, in press, by True Feel

This weeks song goes out to Dallas Green with “Comin’ Home.” Dallas Green plays under the name City and Colour and hails from Ontario, Canada where he’s an established singer/song-writer. Aside from being named our song of the week, it’s also one of our favorite songs. With it’s simplicity, but no lack of deep meaning, it’s a song that can be relatable to most of us in one way or another. Some even say listening to his music is like falling in love and having your heart broken at the same time… that’s deep.

Ray LaMontagne

On November 20, 2012, in press, by True Feel

Last night, we headed over to the Wellmont Theatre, in Montclair,  to catch a sold out show of Ray Lamontagne.

We’ve all been real big fans of Ray for a long time now, but have never able to catch a show because of consistently bad timing. We were not only amped for this show but felt honored to be able to share such an intimate venue space, like the Wellmont, with such a massive, raw talent.

There was no opening act, just a simple setup. Ray, himself, doesn’t need an introduction. (I mean, the guy single-handedly sells out venues within hours…)  We came for one reason, and one reason alone…the man himself. (Yes, we’re fawning a bit, sue us!)

“Solo acoustic evening” that it was, Ray just played his songs and told his stories, accompanied only by his jack-of-all-trades instruments, Zack Hickman on bass, organ, ukelele, and whatever else the song called for. (In short, he’s a humble guy, born and raised in Maine…with over a million dollars in the bank and spending a majority of his time in his home without running water…that he built himself!) He’s a prime example of living the simple life and doing only what he loves.

Having been to dozens of concerts/shows, we  weren’t sure how tough it would be to rank this one against the rest. Once the show ended, it wasn’t a difficult conclusion to draw: This was easily one of the best live performances we had ever witnessed. (And to think, he didn’t need anything more than a few spotlights and his own talent…no light show, no lasers, no smoke…just his voice and his guitar.)

To avoid (or stop, depending on how you read this article) sounding like a teenage girl fawning over Bieber, we’ll give Ray some much due respect and simply say this: That was one hell of a show. Well played, sir.

Cousins Live! / Owls & Lions / The Better Half

On September 24, 2012, in press, by True Feel

Last Friday, TrueFeel’s very own Nikki Stixx of Owls and Lions played a benefit at MexiCali Live in Teaneck, NJ. All tickets sold and money raised for this benefit went to the Angels Without Wings Organization to battle bullying.

Starting off the night was “Cousins Live” who got the crowd moving to some covers with good vibes and a soulful twist.

Acoustics are always a great way to start the night…

Now it’s time for “Owls and Lions” to take stage. Time to get tuned up and jam out…

truefeel clothing

And now it’s show time!

Throwin’ down more technical acoustics with original songs gets the crowd pumped up and ready for more. The night is just getting started.

With the smooth blends of violin, guitar, and vocals…Owls and Lions keeps it fresh in the music scene while the crowd is moving to the beats.

After an awesome set, Owls and Lions clears off stage and makes room for “The Better Half.” Hailing from Philadelphia, this group of guys bring the heavier electric sound to the stage.

The night was packed with lots of great people supporting a great cause while enjoying some great live music. It really doesn’t get much better than that and we’re happy to have taken a part of such an important event. For more information on booking Owls and Lions for a show, click here to send them a message or email them at bookus@owlsandlions.com.

Stay informed…the more we know, the better we can all work together to fight bullying.

Owls & Lions

On April 16, 2012, in press, by True Feel

Bright and early this morning, we headed over to Jay Della Valle’s house…

TrueFeel Clothing

When we arrived, Jay wasn’t home. We let ourselves in with our Dunkin iced coffees, cameras (x3), and violin (which Nikki Stixx plays so well, you’d think she was born with it in her hand). And so what if we got up at 6:30am to play music, meet up with friends and talk business.

TrueFeel Clothing

Jay’s place is definitely eclectic, but the best part is that he’s traveled the world and hand picked the items in his place himself. How’s that for shopping.

TrueFeel Clothing

Meet Rodrigo… born and raised in Argentina with a love for music and acting, he found his way to Brooklyn, NY where he’s livin’ it up. He’s currently filming a few movies in the Manhattan area so you can expect to see him on the big screen in the near future. I can’t show you what they’re looking at right now, but don’t worry, you’ll see it soon…

Now we head outside where the weather couldn’t be more perfect. Setting up the Jeep with proper angles, lighting, sound equipment, and swag…check.

And action…

TrueFeel Clothing

The thing that’s most awesome about music, is that it can travel and be shared wherever you take it. Just so happens that this is the place, and now is the time.

TrueFeel Clothing

We headed to a park a few blocks away…people were popping their heads out of the shops with smiles on their face just to hear where the music was coming from. It was almost like Broadway, except more “real.” The main purpose behind this morning is to get ready for something that is fairly new. Nikki and Jay have toured the country playing rock music in all sorts of venues. From coffee shops to music halls that seat upwards of 10,000+ people, they’ve done it. They understand what many artists seem to forget. It’s not about them, it’s all about the music. They want you to hear it…and so do you. This is the beginning of “Owls & Lions.”

TrueFeel Clothing

Oh hey Rodrigo…

TrueFeel Clothing

When we got to the park, Nikki and Jay took a seat and the music continued. It would have been pretty awesome if this bench was shaded by a giant cherry blossom tree.

TrueFeel Clothing

Oh wait, it was…

TrueFeel Clothing

Live for music. Die for music. Owls & Lions…Coming soon.

Acoustic

On March 10, 2011, in press, by True Feel

This week, we had the privilege of attending the first “Acoustic Wednesdays” night at Session 73 in NYC. This lounge located on 1359 First Ave @ 73rd street holds more than just a great vibe, but now showcases a great variety of musical talent. Being visited by celebs such as Derek Jeter, Will Farrell, Ben Afleck, Dan Marino and many more, you never know what you’ll find on any given night.

Throughout the night, there were a total of five 45 minute sets all consisting of different artist/bands. Included on that list was Jay Delle Della Valle, featuring Jay himself, and True Feels very own, Nikki Stixx.

Jay Della Valle and Nikki Stixx kicked it with a very fun, high energy set list that captivated all attendees with clapping hands and stomping feet. Their blend of vocals, guitar, and violin was nothing short of solid and entertaining. It was a great night to be at Session 73. Check out one of our favorite original songs performed by Della Valle here.

Another band that is no doubt worth mentioning, is Peter Bagale. Using nothing more than an acoustic guitar, cajon, and tambourine…these two guys played the most ridiculous mix of acoustic hip-hop we have ever heard. After starting off with a handful of originals, they side-swiped the entire audience by jumping into some acoustic Biggie Smalls and Black Sheep….they didn’t miss a beat.

…awesome!
